The Ecobarn

Prepared as part of of the first phase of the Garvald Garden Woodland Project, this report described and costed proposals for the construction of an Ecobarn - a simple, cost effective agricultural shell, some bays of which could be infilled to meet more specific requirements.

Designed to be off the grid, using various renewable and alternative energy sources and technologies including wind and solar power and rainwater recycling, the proposals also included a composting toilet and a wood burning stove burning local fuel. The construction used materials with as low embodied energy as possible.
